Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery Series #1) by Bailey Cates
A Magical Bakery Mystery Series by Bailey Cates is sure to be a series you eagerly await the next book release. We get a taste of exactly how addicting this series is with the very first book Brownies and Broomsticks.
Right off the bat we meet Katie Lightfoot, an assistant manager of a bakery in Ohio. This is not her ideal job but it pays the bills, and after a failed engagement she could use anything to keep her mind busy.
Katie thought her fate was sealed to work a job that was “okay” and to be eternally single until one day her Aunt Lucy and Uncle Ben call her and ask if she would like to help them run the new bakery they are going to open – Honeybee Bakery.
Katie jumps at the offer. This could be her fresh start.
After packing up and driving to Savannah, Georgia and starting work at the bakery Katie notices something. She notices her aunt is adding mysterious herbs to all her recipes. Finding this completely weird Katie confronts her aunt and it turns out Aunt Lucy isn’t just “enhancing” the recipes Aunt Lucy is a witch and her recipes are actually spells! ← (This is a quote from Goodreads but it was too cute not to put in my review.)
With all this new information Katie never imagines anything like murder would come into play…but it does. A cranky customer is murdered just outside the Honeybee Bakery and Uncle Ben becomes suspect #1 (guilty by proximity). Because family is everything to Katie, she sets out on a mission to clear Uncle Ben’s name, with the help of two hunks, Steve and Declan, of course.
I loved this book!! I loved the magical elements in the story. I knew I would love the setting of a bakery (because I am a closet foodie) but the magical side of things somehow made it all the better. I also loved Aunt Lucy and Uncle Ben. How they support and love her was really touching.
One more thing I loved – the hint of a coming love story.
Hope your enjoy this book as much as I did.
